The tilting mechanism of the converter works in a high-temperature and dusty environment. Its characteristics are large tilting torque, high speed ratio, frequent starting and braking, and large dynamic load. Therefore, the following requirements are put forward for the tilting mechanism of the converter:

(1) The furnace body can tilt 360° forward and backward and stop smoothly and accurately at any tilting position to meet the requirements of process operations such as adding molten iron, adding scrap steel, sampling, temperature measurement, tapping, slag pouring, and spraying furnace repair; and it has a chain device with oxygen guns, auxiliary guns, ladle cars under the furnace, smoke hoods and other equipment.

(2) According to the requirements of the converter process operation, the tilting speed of the converter is steplessly regulated to meet the needs of various operations. When tapping, slag pouring, and manual sampling, the converter should be tilted smoothly and slowly to prevent the slag from shaking violently or even spraying out of the furnace mouth; when the furnace is empty or erected from a horizontal position, the converter can adopt a higher tilting speed to reduce auxiliary time; when approaching the predetermined position, it should run at a low speed so that the converter can be accurately positioned and operated flexibly.

(3) Safe and reliable. When a fault occurs, the machine should be able to continue working until the end of the steelmaking process.

(4) Even if the axis of the trunnion is deflected to a certain extent due to the warping of the support ring, the gear pairs can still maintain normal meshing.

(5) The tilting mechanism should be compact, occupy a small area, require little investment, be highly efficient, and be easy to maintain.

The converter tilting speed is 0.15 to 1.5 r/min.
