Detailed description of the function of the converter slide slag blocking mechanism

With the rapid development of the steel industry, customers’ demands for steel quality are increasing. Producing high-quality, technologically advanced, and value-added premium steel products has become an inevitable choice for steelmakers.

Steel quality directly impacts steel performance, and reducing slag discharge during the converter tapping process is a crucial step in improving steel quality. Reducing slag discharge during the converter tapping process has long been a technical challenge plaguing the steel industry and has become a limiting factor in producing special and high-quality steels.

Slide plate slag blocking in converters offers the following advantages over other slag blocking methods:

  1. High slag blocking success rate;
  2. Average slag thickness in the ladle during converter tapping: ≤40mm;
  3. Reduces resulfurization and rephosphorization in the steel, improving steel quality;
  4. Improves metal yield;
  5. Reduces the consumption of alloys used in converter post-processing;
